Teaching
I am passionate about teaching and undergraduate education, in addition to research. My teaching philosophy is founded on the importance of three concepts—connection, engagement, and application. My pedagogy has developed through time and experience and has continued to evolve during my time as an assistant professor at UCI where I regularly participate in various teaching training courses. Additionally, I am an active participant in the UCI LIFTED program and was part of the first faculty to provide education to incarcerated UCI students at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility.
While at UCLA I taught courses in a wide range of subjects. I also participated in the academic mentoring program and worked as the sociology coordinator for UCLA's internship program. I was awarded excellence in teaching in the sociology department every year I taught. In 2015, I won the Peter Kollock Excellence in Teaching Award, the department’s highest teaching distinction, which honors graduate students who have consistently received top evaluation scores and noteworthy remarks from their students.
